The South African Subtropical Growers’ Association (Subtrop) manages the affairs of three industry associations, including the South African Avocado Growers’ Association (SAAGA).
SAAGA supports the avocado industry through research, marketing initiatives, and advocacy.
About the Subtrop SAAGA Bursary
The Subtrop SAAGA Bursary aims to empower students from historically disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue careers in the South African avocado industry.
The bursary program offers financial assistance to undergraduate and postgraduate students (honors and masters degrees) enrolled in a BSc Agriculture degree or an equivalent qualification with a major in Horticultural Science, Agricultural Economics, or Agribusiness.
This bursary program is a testament to SAAGA’s commitment to fostering diversity and excellence within the avocado industry.
Subtrop SAAGA Bursary Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Subtrop SAAGA Bursary, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be a South African student of color.
- Have completed your Matric certificate.
- Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree program in Agriculture or an equivalent qualification (Horticultural Science, Agricultural Economics, or Agribusiness).
- Be registered at a recognized and accredited tertiary institution within South Africa.
- Be willing to read and agree to all the terms and conditions outlined in the application form.
Subtrop SAAGA Bursary Application Requirements
To apply for the Subtrop Bursary, you will need to download the application form from the Subtrop website and submit it along with the following supporting documents:
- Certified copy of your South African ID document.
- Certified copy of your Matric certificate.
- Full academic record/transcripts from your university (on official letterhead).
- A motivational letter explaining why you deserve the bursary (consider utilizing available resources on writing compelling bursary motivational letters).
- Curriculum Vitae (maximum of 2 pages).
- Details of any other bursary or scholarship awards you currently hold.
- Contact information for three references (full name, relationship to you, email address, and phone number).
