About the Stanlib Bursary

The Stanlib Bursary provides comprehensive financial support for students pursuing qualifications related to investment management.

This bursary is specifically aimed at historically disadvantaged South African students, with a preference for those studying towards degrees like Bachelor of Business Science (BBusSc), Bachelor of Commerce (BCom), or Bachelor of Science (BSc) with a focus on the following fields:

  1. Business Finance
  2. Economics
  3. Financial Analysis
  4. Investment Management
  5. Mathematics
  6. Statistics

The bursary covers a wide range of expenses, including:

  1. Tuition fees
  2. Book allowance for textbooks and course materials
  3. Laptop (based on financial need)
  4. Accommodation (preferably on campus)
  5. Stipend (based on financial need)

Stanlib Bursary Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Stanlib Bursary, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be a South African citizen
  2. Be from a historically disadvantaged background
  3. Be classified as Black according to the B-BBEE Act
  4. Have completed Matric (high school graduation)
  5. Be enrolled in or intend to enroll in a full-time investment management related qualification
  6. Be accepted or enrolled at one of the listed South African universities
  7. Demonstrate a strong academic record with a minimum average of 75% for core academic subjects
  8. Have a clear intention to pursue a career in investment management
  9. Demonstrate financial need
  10. Have no permanent work experience (excluding vacation work)
  11. Not be a STANLIB employee or a relative of an employee

While not mandatory, showcasing leadership qualities and participation in extracurricular activities like sports clubs or debating teams can strengthen your application.

Stanlib Bursary Application Requirements

Applications for the Stanlib Bursary are submitted online.

Make sure you include clear copies of the following supporting documents:

  1. Certified copy of your South African ID document
  2. Academic record or official transcripts on your university’s letterhead
  3. University quote or fee statement on the institution’s letterhead
  4. One-page motivational letter explaining your desire to study an investment management qualification (see resources for writing a strong motivational letter)
  5. Certified copies of your parents’ or guardians’ ID documents
  6. Proof of income for your parents or guardians (latest three months’ payslips or affidavit if unemployed)
  7. Latest three months’ bank statements from your parents or guardians
