About the Amazon Bursary

This bursary program provides financial support for academically deserving students pursuing degrees in computer science and related fields.

The program specifically focuses on students entering their final year of a three or four-year undergraduate degree in:

  1. Computer Engineering
  2. Computer Science
  3. Information Systems
  4. Information Technology
  5. Software Engineering

The bursary covers a wide range of expenses up to a capped amount.

This includes: tuition fees, stationery and books, personal computer, accommodation (residence or private), transport, and general living expenses.

Beyond financial support, the bursary offers valuable professional experience.

Recipients participate in a paid internship program during summer vacation.

This internship allows Amazon to assess your skills and consider you for a full-time software development engineer (SDE) role after graduation.

The internship serves as an excellent platform to gain practical experience, contribute meaningfully to projects, and network with industry professionals.

Bursary recipients may be required to work for Amazon after graduation for a period equivalent to the duration of the funding received.

Amazon Bursary Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Amazon Bursary, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be a South African citizen
  2. Have completed Matric
  3. Be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in one of the specified fields (listed above)
  4. Be entering your final year of a 3 or 4-year undergraduate degree program
  5. Plan to continue your studies towards an Honours degree after the internship
  6. Have a minimum overall academic average of 65%
  7. Be enrolled at a recognized and accredited university in South Africa
  8. Demonstrate a strong interest in software development engineering and a career with Amazon
  9. Be willing to participate in the summer internship program

Amazon Bursary Application Requirements

Applications for the Amazon Bursary are submitted online through StudyTrust, the administrators of the bursary program.

  2. Matric certificate
  3. Full academic record/transcripts
  4. Proof of income for parents or guardians (payslips, employer letter, financial statements, affidavit if unemployed)
  5. Death certificates (if parents/guardians deceased)
  6. Divorce certificate (if parents/guardians divorced)
  7. Sworn statement (if parents/guardians separated)
  8. Profile picture
  9. Proof of address
