The Energy and Water Sector Education and Training Authority (EWSETA) is one of 21 Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs) established by the South African government.

EWSETA plays a role in developing and managing skills within the national framework.

Their focus areas include water services, gas, energy, and renewable energy.

Recognizing the importance of a skilled workforce, EWSETA offers bursaries to support deserving students who are pursuing studies in these critical fields.

About the EWSETA Bursary

The EWSETA Bursary is a financial aid program designed to empower South African students who wish to pursue careers in the energy and water sectors.

It provides significant financial support towards tuition fees, textbooks, stationery, accommodation, and meals.

This comprehensive approach helps alleviate financial burdens, allowing students to concentrate fully on their academic achievements.

EWSETA Bursary Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the EWSETA Bursary, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be a South African citizen.
  2. Have a completed Matric certificate or equivalent qualification.
  3. Currently be studying or be accepted to study at a recognized South African university or TVET college.
  4. Be enrolled in a program that falls within the energy and water sectors (refer to the list below for specific examples).
  5. Preference will be given to students from previously disadvantaged communities (youth, black, female) and students with disabilities.  

The EWSETA Bursary prioritizes programs relevant to the energy and water sectors.

Some examples include:

  1. Engineering Studies (GFETQSF) (Certificate: N1/ N2/ N3)
  2. Civil Engineering (Bachelor of Engineering)
  3. Electrical Engineering (Diploma/ Bachelor of Technology)
  4. Engineering Technology (Computer Systems) (Diploma)
  5. Quality (Bachelor of Technology/ Master of Technology)
  6. Hydrology and Water Resources Management (Bachelor of Science)
  7. Supply Chain Management (Diploma/ Advanced Diploma/ Bachelor degree/ Honours degree)
  8. Marketing (Diploma/ Postgraduate Diploma/ Bachelor of Commerce/ Bachelor of Commerce Honours)
  9. Information Systems Management (Advanced Certificate)
  10. Information Technology (Advanced Diploma/ Bachelor degree)  

EWSETA Bursary Application Requirements

To apply for the EWSETA Bursary, you will need to prepare the following documents:

  1. Certified copy of a valid matriculation certificate or equivalent qualification (not older than 3 months from the date requested).
  2. Certified copy of your South African identity document (not older than 3 months from the date requested).
  3. University/TVET stamped full academic records (for continuing students).
  4. Copy of proof of application and/or provisional acceptance letter (for first-time applicants).
  5. Any additional information requested by EWSETA.

EWSETA Bursary Closing Date

It’s important to note that the closing date for EWSETA Bursary applications usually falls on June 30th each year.

However, you can submit your application even if you haven’t received your results or haven’t registered yet.
