FAFSA login Forgotten | How to fix

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid is important for American students who are in need of financial assistance for college.

However, forgetting your login credentials can create a temporary problem in this process.

If you have forgotten your FAFSA login details, this is how you go about recovering your account.

FAFSA Login Forgotten Username or Password?

There are two main scenarios when dealing with FAFSA login forgotten information:

  1. Forgotten Username: You might not recall the exact username associated with your FSA ID.
  2. Forgotten Password: You remember your username but have forgotten the password.

The good news is that the Federal Student Aid (FSA) website offers solutions for both situations.

How to recover your username

There are three ways to recover your FSA ID username:

  1. Email or Phone Number: If you previously verified your email address or mobile phone number with your FSA ID, you can use them as login alternatives. Simply enter your email or phone number on the login page and proceed.
  2. Challenge Questions: During FSA ID creation, you set up challenge questions and answers. Visit the “https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/sign-in/retrieve-username” page. Choose “Retrieve Username” and answer the challenge questions accurately. This will display your forgotten username.
  3. Contact the Federal Student Aid Information Center: If the above methods fail, contact the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243). A representative will guide you through the recovery process, which may involve providing additional verification information.

How to reset your password

If you remember your username but forgot the password, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the “https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/sign-in/retrieve-username” page.
  2. Enter your username and select “Forgot My Password.”
  3. Choose your preferred recovery method:
    • Email: A secure code will be sent to your verified email address. Enter the code to create a new password.
    • Challenge Questions: Answer the pre-set challenge questions correctly to access the password reset option.
  4. Once you receive the secure code or answer the challenge questions, you’ll be able to set a new, strong password for your FSA ID.
