Technical Fix to the 2024-25 FAFSA Form for Individuals Without a Social Security Number (SSN)

The U.S. Department of Education is working hard to fix problems with the 2024–25 FAFSA online form. Some students have been having trouble if they have someone helping pay for college who doesn’t have a Social Security number (SSN).

Good news! The Department has made some changes to the form. Now, students with supporters who don’t have an SSN can submit the form without any issues.

However, some students might still face problems. But don’t worry, the Department knows about these issues and is trying to fix them.

To help students, the Department has created a helpful document with tips. These tips will guide students with supporters without an SSN on how to fill out the form correctly.

You can find this document and sign up for updates on any issues related to this at https://www.ed.gov/FAFSAContributorUpdates.

If you want to stay updated, keep an eye on the 2024-25 FAFSA Issue Alerts page. It will show any new updates mentioned in the announcement.

Another important update is about the transmission of Institutional Student Information Records (ISIRs). This process started recently and is slowly getting better.

The announcement also talks about problems that have been fixed and some new issues to be aware of. For all the details, make sure to read the full announcement.

Attention to all EDconnect users! There’s an update you need to know about. A file called tdclient.ini used by EDconnect had a problem. This issue affected how EDconnect works with Network Headers and Trailers.

But don’t worry, it’s been fixed! If you downloaded the file before a certain time on March 11, you need to follow some steps mentioned in the Issue Description document to make sure everything works smoothly.
