About the Grassroots Youth Development Bursary
The Grassroots Youth Development Bursary Programme specifically targets students residing within the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, Sarah Baartman Municipality, and Sundays River Valley Local Municipality.
This program offers financial assistance to academically deserving students pursuing undergraduate degrees or diplomas in Mathematics, Sciences, or Renewable Energy fields.
The Grassroots Youth Development Bursary focuses on supporting students who aspire to careers in the following fields:
- Mathematics
- Sciences (e.g. Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
- Renewable Energy
The bursary provides partial or full financial coverage for various academic expenses, including:
- Registration fees
- Tuition fees
- Prescribed study materials
- Accommodation
- Living allowance stipend or transport fees
It’s important to note that bursaries are awarded for one academic year at a time.
To maintain bursary funding, recipients must reapply each year and demonstrate satisfactory academic performance.
Grassroots Youth Development Bursary Eligibility Criteria
Before applying for the Grassroots Youth Development Bursary, ensure you meet the following minimum requirements:
- South African citizenship
- Completion of Matric (National Senior Certificate)
- Residency in one of these municipalities: Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, Sarah Baartman Municipality, or Sundays River Valley Local Municipality
- Full-time enrollment or registration for an undergraduate degree or diploma at a recognized South African university or college
- Aspiration for a career in Mathematics, Sciences, or Renewable Energy
- Total combined household income not exceeding R350,000 per year
Grassroots Youth Development Bursary Application Requirements
Applications for the Grassroots Youth Development Bursary can be submitted in two ways:
- Online application: Access the online application form through the link provided on the Masinyusane Development Organization website.
- Downloadable application form: Download the bursary application form (.pdf) from the Masinyusane website and complete it manually.
Regardless of the submission method, applicants must provide clear copies of the following supporting documents:
- Certified copy of your South African ID document
- Certified copy of your Matric final results/certificate
- Proof of acceptance to a university or college (if entering your first year of study) on official tertiary letterhead
- Full tertiary academic record (if currently enrolled) on official tertiary letterhead
Additional documents required for students under 18 or those financially dependent on a household:
- Proof of address (municipal account statement or affidavit from Ward Councillor)
- Proof of household income and parents’/guardians’ employment status (payslips if employed, affidavits if unemployed, social grant slips or SASSA letters if receiving a grant, or death certificates if deceased) – all certified copies
- Parents’/guardians’ most recent bank statements (3 months)
Please note that all supporting documents must be certified by a Police Station or Post Office and should not be older than six months.
Incomplete applications will be disregarded.
