Harmony’s bursary program aims to empower South African students by providing financial assistance for full-time studies at accredited universities.

The program prioritizes fields relevant to Harmony’s operations, fostering a skilled workforce for the future of the mining industry.

However, bursaries are also available in non-core mining disciplines.

About Harmony Bursary

Harmony offers bursaries for a variety of fields, categorized as core mining disciplines and non-core disciplines.

    • Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current only)
    • Extractive Metallurgy
    • Geology
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Mining Engineering
    • Rock Engineering  
    • Survey
  2. Non-Core Mining Disciplines:
    • Accounting
    • Finance
    • Health Sciences
    • Human Resources
    • Information Technology
    • Social Sciences

Harmony Bursary Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Harmony Bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be a South African citizen between 18 and 35 years old.
  2. Be currently enrolled in Matric (Grade 12) or have completed Matric.
  3. Have achieved a minimum of 60% for all subjects in Matric.
  4. Be planning or currently pursuing full-time studies towards a qualification in one of the listed fields.
  5. Be enrolled at a recognized tertiary institution in South Africa for the 2025 academic year.
  6. (For Engineering students) Have achieved a minimum of 70% for Mathematics and Physical Science in Matric.
  7. (For Core Mining Discipline students) Have achieved a minimum of 70% in Mathematics and Science (excluding Mathematics Literacy).
  8. (For current tertiary students) Have a minimum of 60% average for all major subjects in your most recent academic year.
  9. Not be receiving any other bursary funding or sponsorship.

Preference will be given to:

  1. Students pursuing core mining disciplines.
  2. Students from Harmony host communities and labor-sending areas.
  3. Dependents of Harmony employees.
  4. Historically disadvantaged individuals.

Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

However, selection will be based on the physical demands of the chosen field of study.

Harmony Bursary Application Requirements

To apply for the Harmony Bursary, you will need to submit the following:

  1. Completed Harmony Bursary Application Form 2025
  2. A recent passport-sized photograph.
  3. Certified copy of your South African ID document.
  4. Certified copies of your Grade 11 final results and Matric June results (if applicable).
  5. Certified copy of your Matric certificate (if completed).
  6. Certified copy of your full academic record, including most recent results (if currently studying).
  7. Original acceptance letter from your tertiary institution (on official letterhead).
  8. Curriculum Vitae (maximum 3 pages).
