Shoprite Bursary South Africa 2025
Shoprite Holdings South Africa is inviting students to apply for their 2025 bursary programme. Shoprite Holdings Ltd is the largest supermarket retailer in Africa, with its headquarters in Brackenfell, Western Cape, South Africa.
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted within 30 days of the application deadline. If you do not receive feedback within this period, please consider your application unsuccessful.
Internal candidates will be given first consideration before external applications are reviewed, in line with Shoprite’s Employment Equity goals.
About the Shoprite Bursary Programme
The Shoprite bursary aims to support talented and motivated students by covering key study-related expenses. The bursary will provide financial assistance for:
- Tuition fees
- Study materials (books)
- Accommodation allowance
The bursary value ranges between R30,000 and R60,000, depending on the field of study and the institution.
Work-Back Obligation
After graduation, bursary recipients will be required to work for Shoprite for 1 year for every year of funding received.
Eligibility Criteria for Shoprite Bursaries
To qualify, applicants must meet the following minimum entry requirements:
1. Accounting (CA Stream – SAICA) Bursary
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must NOT be older than 27 years
- Must have completed Matric
- Must be studying towards a BCom Accounting or BAcc (CA stream) degree
- Must be in 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of study or completing PGDA/CTA
- Must have a minimum overall average of 65%
- Must have achieved at least 65% in Accounting, Auditing, and Taxation
- Must be studying at a recognised and accredited South African institution
Career Path:
Graduates will have the opportunity to join the Shoprite Finance team and participate in the Accounting Articles Programme. This programme offers exposure to the entire Shoprite Group and the chance to work with a diverse range of stakeholders.
2. Biological and Agricultural Sciences Bursary
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must NOT be older than 27 years
- Must have completed Matric
- Must be studying towards a BSc in Microbiology, Plant Pathology, Botany, Zoology, Genetics, Biotechnology, or Agricultural Science
- Must be in 3rd or 4th year of study
- Must have a minimum overall average of 60%
- Must be studying at a recognised and accredited South African institution
Career Path:
Graduates will have the opportunity to join the Fresh Foods/ Freshmark team at Shoprite.
3. Data Science Bursary
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must NOT be older than 27 years
- Must have completed Matric
- Must be studying towards a degree or postgraduate qualification in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Operational Research, Quantitative Management, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, or Data Engineering
- Must be in 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of study or completing Honours
- Must have a minimum overall average of 60%
- Must have achieved at least 65% in Mathematics (from 2nd year)
- Must be studying at a recognised and accredited South African institution
Career Path:
Graduates will join the Shoprite Data Science Academy to develop their skills and become top-level specialists in data science.
4. Food Science Bursary
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must NOT be older than 27 years
- Must have completed Matric
- Must be studying towards a Food Technology (Food Tech) or Food Science degree
- Must be in 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of study
- Must have a minimum overall average of 60%
- Must be studying at a recognised and accredited South African institution
Career Path:
Graduates will have the opportunity to join the Shoprite Fresh Foods/ Freshmark team.
5. Information Technology/ Systems Bursary
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must NOT be older than 27 years
- Must have completed Matric
- Must be studying towards a BSc/ BCom degree majoring in Information Technology or Systems Analysis
- Must be in 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of study
- Must have a minimum overall average of 60%
- Must be studying at a recognised and accredited South African institution
Career Path:
Graduates will have the opportunity to join the Shoprite Group and participate in the SAP Academy to develop expertise in System Analysis.
6. Retail Business Management Bursary
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must NOT be older than 27 years
- Must have completed Matric
- Must be studying towards a Diploma in Retail Business Management
- Must be in 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th year (Advanced Diploma) of study
- Must have a minimum overall average of 65%
- Must be studying at a recognised and accredited South African institution
Career Path:
Graduates will have the opportunity to pursue a career in Retail Management with Africa’s largest retailer.
7. Supply Chain & Logistics Bursary
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must NOT be older than 27 years
- Must have completed Matric
- Must be studying towards a BCom in Logistics/ Supply Chain Management or BSc Operational Research
- Diploma/Advanced Diploma in Supply Chain Management/Logistics also accepted
- Must be in 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of study
- Must have a minimum overall average of 60%
- Must be studying at a recognised and accredited South African institution
Career Path:
Graduates will have the opportunity to join the Shoprite Supply Chain and Logistics team.
