Kay Mason Foundation High School Scholarships 2027
The Kay Mason Foundation (KMF) High School Scholarships provide financial and academic support to talented South African students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The program aims to develop future leaders by providing access to quality education and comprehensive personal development.
What the Kay Mason Foundation Scholarship Covers
The KMF Scholarship offers a wide range of benefits to successful candidates, including:
- School fees
- Transport
- School uniforms
- Textbooks and study materials
- Academic tutoring and extra-curricular activities
- Psychometric testing and career guidance
- Life skills workshops and mentorship programs
- School camps and support workshops
- Post-graduation support
KMF does not cover 100% of education costs. Parents or guardians are expected to contribute to ensure a shared commitment to the student’s success.
Eligibility Criteria for the Kay Mason Foundation High School Scholarship
To apply for the KMF Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a South African citizen
- Be in Grade 6 in the year of application
- Be between 10 and 13 years old in the year of application
- Have a combined household income of no more than R17 500 per month
- Live in Cape Town, Northern Suburbs, Southern Suburbs, Helderberg, or within commuting distance from the KMF offices in Bellville
- Demonstrate leadership potential, strong work ethic, and commitment to academics
Applicants must submit clear copies of the following supporting documents:
- Birth certificate
- Parent(s) or guardian(s) ID documents or death certificates (if applicable)
- Grade 5 (Term 4) and Grade 6 (Term 1) school reports
- Proof of household income:
- If employed: latest 3 months’ salary slips, 3 years’ IRP5 forms, and employment contract
- If self-employed: 3 years’ tax returns and 3 years’ IRP5 forms (if receiving a salary)
- If unemployed: affidavit stating how long and why you are unemployed
- If receiving a SASSA grant: confirmation letter from SASSA
- If disabled: medical proof of disability
- If retrenched: retrenchment and UIF letter
- If receiving a pension: 3 months’ pension statements or 3 years’ IRP5 forms
- If receiving maintenance: court order as proof
- A handwritten essay by the learner about their family, living conditions, and community
Important: All documents must be scanned and uploaded separately when completing the online application. Incomplete applications will be disqualified.

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documents along with your online application. The submission of these documents is compulsory — if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified:
- Learner’s birth certificate
- Parents’ or legal guardians’ ID documents (or death certificates if deceased)
- Grade 5 (Term 4) report
- Grade 6 (Term 1) report
- Essay about your family, your living conditions, and your community (written by the applicant, in their own handwriting)
- Parents’ or legal guardians’ 3 months bank statements
Parents’ or legal guardians’ proof of income:
- If employed: Most recent 3 months’ salary slips, 3 years’ IRP5s, and a copy of the employment contract
- If self-employed: 3 years’ tax returns from the business and 3 years’ IRP5s (if taking a salary)
- If unemployed: Affidavit stating how long and why you are unemployed
- If receiving a SASSA grant: Letter from SASSA confirming all SASSA grants received for family members in the home
- If disabled or unable to work: Proof of the disability
- If retrenched: Retrenchment and UIF letter
- If receiving a pension: 3 months’ pension statements OR 3 months’ salary slips OR 3 years’ IRP5s
- If receiving maintenance: Court order as proof under income

Selection Process Timeline
- First academic assessments – 7 June 2025
- Final screening – July to August 2025
- Second assessment and workshop – 20 September 2025
- Interviews and presentations – 25 October and 1 November 2025
- Scholarship camp – 11 to 13 December 2025
- Scholarship awards – February 2026

Successful candidates will benefit from:
- Academic tutoring to maintain a 65% average in all subjects
- Mentorship programs with experienced leaders
- Psycho-social development support
- Life skills and career guidance workshops
- Regular Saturday classes in Bellville (attendance is required)

The deadline for applications is 30 April 2025. Late submissions will not be considered.
