South African students seeking financial assistance for their tertiary education should consider the MBC/ Voice of the Cape Bursary.

This bursary program is offered by the Voice of the Cape (VOC) radio station in conjunction with the Muslim Broadcasting Corporation (MBC).

It aims to empower deserving students from disadvantaged communities in the Western Cape.

The Voice of the Cape (VOC) is the first Muslim radio station in South Africa.

Established in 1975, VOC broadcasts Islamic programming, news, and educational content, catering specifically to the Muslim community in the Western Cape.

The Muslim Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) is the governing body of VOC.

About MBC/ Voice of the Cape Bursary

The MBC/ Voice of the Cape Bursary offers financial assistance to deserving students pursuing tertiary education at universities, universities of technology, FET colleges, or Islamic institutes.

The bursary prioritizes applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds within the Western Cape province.

While all fields of study are considered, preference is given to students pursuing careers in Media or Islamic Studies.

MBC/ Voice of the Cape Bursary Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the MBC/ Voice of the Cape Bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be a South African citizen
  2. Reside within the Western Cape province
  3. Possess a good academic record
  4. Have completed Matric (or an equivalent NQF level 4 qualification) or higher
  5. Be currently enrolled or planning to enroll at a recognized university, university of technology, FET college, or Islamic institute
  6. Be from a disadvantaged community
  7. MBC structures, employees, and their dependents are also welcome to apply

MBC/ Voice of the Cape Bursary Application Requirements

Before applying, applicants must download and carefully review the official application form.

In addition to the completed application form, applicants must submit clear, certified copies of the following supporting documents:

  1. Identity document (ID)
  2. Matric certificate/ results
  3. Latest academic results
  4. Two letters of reference with contact details (one from your current educational institution or employer, and another from your local religious leader)
  5. A motivational letter (minimum 1000 words) outlining your goals and aspirations, your chosen field of study and its relevance, and how your qualification will benefit your community
  6. Proof of income for parents/ guardians (letter stating annual salary if employed, or affidavit if unemployed)
