The Milliman Scholarship aims to financially support students from historically under-represented ethnic groups pursuing undergraduate degrees in fields crucial to the actuarial and data science professions.
Scholarship America, a renowned organization specializing in scholarship management, administers the program.
The scholarship is open to students residing and studying in South Africa, along with students from the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, and Australia.
Funding covers studies for the 2025 academic year for South African students.
Milliman Scholarship Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Milliman Scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:
- Belong to a qualified ethnic minority group (see details below for each country)
- Reside and attend a university in South Africa, Australia, United States, Canada, Ireland, or the United Kingdom
- Be in your final year of high school (Matric or Grade 12) or pursuing undergraduate studies (technical or university level)
- Demonstrate a strong academic record
- Plan to enroll full-time in an accredited institution within the mentioned countries, pursuing an undergraduate qualification in one of the eligible fields:
- Actuarial Science
- Computer Science
- Data Analytics
- Data Science
- Economics
- Finance
- Mathematics
- Programming
- Statistics
Specific Eligibility Requirements by Country:
- South Africa: At least one birth parent must be Black or Coloured.
- United States & Canada: At least one birth parent must be of African descent, Latino/ Hispanic, Native North American, or Pacific Islander.
- United Kingdom & Ireland: At least one birth parent must be Black African, Black Caribbean, Irish Traveller, or Gypsy.
- Australia: At least one birth parent must be Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
Milliman Scholarship Application Requirements
All applications must be submitted online via the Scholarship America website.
Here’s what you’ll need to provide:
- Completed Online Application: Create an account beforehand to access and complete the application form.
- Supporting Documents: Include clear copies of the following:
- Current and complete transcript of grades (displaying full name, school name, results, and credit hours per course)
- United States and Canada only: Separate copies of SAT or ACT test scores if not included in your transcript (if applicable)
- Any other available professional test scores relevant to your chosen field, including but not limited to SOA CAS, ASSA, and IFoA exam results (if applicable)
