For all my ambitious South African students who are aiming to pursue postgraduate studies and start a fulfilling academic career, the Nurturing Emerging Scholars Programme (NESP) Scholarship presents an exceptional opportunity.

The NESP Scholarship is offered by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).

It provides comprehensive support for qualifying students to pursue Master’s degrees at select universities in South Africa and France.

About the NESP Scholarship

NESP Scholarship Application Form

The NESP Scholarship application process involves two key stages:

1. Completing the Application Form:

  1. The application form is typically available online through the DHET website or the websites of participating universities.
  2. Carefully review the eligibility criteria and program details before applying.
  3. Ensure all required documentation is attached, such as academic transcripts, proof of citizenship, and a research proposal.
  4. Proofread your application thoroughly before submitting.

2. Submitting Your Application:

  1. Applications are usually submitted online through the designated portal.
  2. Double-check that all information is accurate and complete before final submission.
  3. Keep a copy of your submitted application for your records.

The NESP Scholarship Requirements

To be eligible for the NESP Scholarship, you must:

  1. Be a South African citizen.
  2. Have completed an appropriate Level 8 qualification with a minimum average of 65%.
  3. Be in the final year of your undergraduate studies, or be an Honours or Master’s student or graduate.
  4. Demonstrate a strong interest in pursuing an academic career.
  5. Meet the specific requirements of the chosen Master’s program at the participating university.

Additional requirements may apply depending on the specific program and university.

The NESP Scholarship Closing Date

The NESP Scholarship application period typically opens in June/July and closes in October every year.

For this 2024 academic year’s scholarship application cycle, the closing date was on 31 October 2023.
