What is the Netflix Scholarship?

The Netflix Creative Equity Scholarship Fund (CESF) is a financial aid program designed to support students pursuing careers in film and television. The scholarship provides access to top institutions and helps aspiring filmmakers and television professionals develop their skills.

Who Can Apply for the Netflix Scholarship?

To qualify for the Netflix Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of an SADC country, which includes Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, or Zimbabwe.
  • Have completed Matric.
  • Be studying or planning to study a film or television-related qualification.
  • Be in their final year of an undergraduate program or first year of a postgraduate program.
  • Have completed an undergraduate degree between 2019 and 2024 (for postgraduate applicants).
  • Maintain a minimum academic average of 60%.
  • Be enrolled at one of Netflix’s approved partner institutions, including:
    • AACA Film and Acting School
    • AFDA
    • Boston Media House
    • Cape Peninsula University of Technology
    • City Varsity
    • Durban University of Technology
    • Tshwane University of Technology
    • University of Cape Town
    • University of Johannesburg
    • University of KwaZulu-Natal
    • University of Pretoria
    • University of the Witwatersrand
  • Demonstrate financial need.
  • Not be receiving any other bursary or financial aid.

What Does the Netflix Scholarship Cover?

The Netflix Creative Equity Scholarship Fund (CESF) covers essential study-related expenses, including:

  • Tuition fees
  • Accommodation costs
  • Study materials
  • Living expenses

Netflix has committed US$1 million (approximately R15 million) to this program, supporting African creatives across the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.

How to Apply for the Netflix Scholarship

Applications for the Netflix Scholarship must be submitted online through the Tshikululu Social Investments website. Applicants must provide:

  • Certified copy of ID document.
  • Certified copy of Matric certificate.
  • Full academic transcript (on university letterhead).
  • Proof of acceptance or registration at an eligible tertiary institution.
  • Three short essays (maximum 500 words each) covering:
    1. A personal introduction, family background, and journey.
    2. Motivation for studying the chosen program and how it will advance your career.
    3. Why you should be selected for the Netflix Scholarship.

Netflix Scholarship Deadline

Applications for the 2025 Netflix Scholarship will close on 4 February 2025 at 23:59. Submit your application before the deadline to be considered.
