About the PAMSA Bursary
The PAMSA Bursary is a two-year bursary program designed to assist academically-gifted students in achieving their Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering at select South African universities.
This program fosters the development of highly skilled chemical engineers within the paper manufacturing industry, aligning with PAMSA’s commitment to contributing to the country’s economic growth and sustainability.
PAMSA Bursary Application Form
Unfortunately, the PAMSA Bursary application window typically opens in April and closes at the end of June.
You will be required to submit the following documents along with your application form:
- Curriculum Vitae
- Full academic record/ transcripts for all years of university study (on institutions letterhead)

PAMSA Bursary Requirements
To be eligible for the PAMSA Bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Citizenship: South African citizenship is an advantage, although outstanding international applicants may be considered.
- Academic Record: A minimum 60% average in the final year of a BEng or BSc degree in Chemical Engineering from a recognized South African university.
- Study Progress: Completion of studies within five years or less.
- Degree Program: Enrollment in a Master’s program in Chemical Engineering at one of the following participating universities: University of Pretoria, Stellenbosch University, University of the Witwatersrand, or North-West University.
- Research Focus: Willingness to undertake research projects aligned with PAMSA’s focus areas, which may include beneficiation of wood fiber, recycled fiber, process waste, and resource efficiency.
PAMSA Bursary Closing Date
As mentioned earlier, the application window typically opens in April and closes at the end the month of June. Last year’s bursary application cycle closed on 9 June 2023.
