About the Sage Bursary

The Sage Bursary is a fantastic opportunity for South African students pursuing undergraduate degrees in Accounting & Finance (BCom), Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Technology.

Additionally, students with disabilities can apply for undergraduate or postgraduate degrees in any field of study.

The bursary aims to ease the financial burden of university education, covering essential expenses such as tuition fees, stationery, textbooks, and accommodation (residence or private).

Existing student debt may also be considered for coverage, providing a comprehensive financial safety net.

Sage Bursary Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Sage Bursary, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. You must be a South African citizen.
  2. Previously Disadvantaged Individual (PDI): You must identify as a previously disadvantaged individual.
  3. You must be currently enrolled in Matric or have completed Matric.
  4. Field of Study: You must be studying or intend to study in one of the approved fields (Accounting & Finance, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Technology) for your undergraduate degree in 2025 (applicable to all years of study).
  5. You must be studying or have been accepted to study at a recognized and accredited public university in South Africa.
  6. Academic Performance:
    • Current Matric Students: You must have a minimum of 75% in Mathematics and Physical Science.
    • Current University Students: You must have a consistent overall average of at least 65%.
  7. Disability Consideration: Students with disabilities can apply for undergraduate or postgraduate degrees in any field.
  8. Household Income: Your total household income must fall between R350 000 and R500 000 per annum. If your income is lower than R350 000, you must have applied for NSFAS funding. Applications will still be considered if you applied for NSFAS but were unsuccessful.
  9. Preference: Applications from students with disabilities will be given preferential treatment.

The following supporting documents must be uploaded with your application:

  1. Clear Head and Shoulders Photograph
  2. Certified Copy of South African ID Document
  3. Academic Records:
    • Grade 11 final results and Matric June results (if currently in Matric)
    • Matric certificate (if completed Matric)
    • Full academic record and latest available results (June 2024 exam results or progress report)
  4. Proof of Household Income:
    • Latest payslips for employed parents/guardians
    • Affidavit if parents/guardians are unemployed
    • Affidavit stating annual income if parents/guardians are self-employed
    • Most recent audited financial statement or 3 months’ bank statements (if parents/guardians own a business)
    • SASSA letter stating grants received (if applicable)
  5. Death Certificates (if parents are deceased)
  6. Proof of Child Support (if applicable):
    • Court order stating child support amounts (if parents are divorced)
    • Affidavit from parent stating child support amount received (if parents are separated)
  7. Proof of Disability (if applicable): Doctor’s medical report or note
