Can you check SASSA balance at ATM?
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) grants provide much-needed financial support for qualifying individuals and families.
Keeping track of your SASSA balance is necessary for effective financial planning.
Fortunately, checking your SASSA balance is a quick and convenient process that can be done in several ways, including at an ATM.
Checking Your SASSA Balance at an ATM
This is a step-by-step guide on how to check your SASSA balance at an ATM:
- Locate an ATM: You can use your SASSA card at any ATM that displays the SASSA logo or accepts Mastercard or Visa cards. Look for ATMs at banks, grocery stores, petrol stations, and other convenient locations.
- Insert your SASSA card: Carefully insert your SASSA card into the ATM slot with the chip facing upwards and the magnetic stripe facing backwards.
- Enter your PIN: A prompt will appear asking for your Personal Identification Number (PIN). Enter your unique 4-digit PIN securely. Remember to shield the keypad with your hand while entering your PIN to prevent anyone from seeing it.
- Select “Balance Inquiry”: Once you’ve entered your PIN correctly, the ATM screen will display various options. Look for an option labelled “Balance Inquiry” or something similar.
- Review your balance: Select the “Balance Inquiry” option. The screen will display your current SASSA account balance.
- Print a receipt (optional): Some ATMs offer the option to print a receipt of your current balance. If you need a physical copy for your records, select “Print Receipt” and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Retrieve your card: Once you’ve finished checking your balance and printing a receipt (if needed), be sure to retrieve your SASSA card from the ATM slot.
- Safely log out: Select the “Log Out” option on the ATM screen and wait for your card to be ejected.
You must always memorize your SASSA PIN and avoid writing it down anywhere. If you forget your PIN, you can visit a SASSA office to have it reset.
Be aware of your surroundings when using an ATM. Avoid using ATMs in poorly lit or isolated locations.
Shield the keypad while entering your PIN and avoid using ATMs that appear tampered with.
There’s usually a limit to the number of times you can enter an incorrect PIN.
If you enter your PIN incorrectly after a certain number of attempts, your card may be blocked.
