About Thales Southern Africa Bursaries

The Thales Southern Africa Bursaries program offers financial support to deserving students seeking a university education.

The bursary covers a wide range of expenses, including:

  1. Registration fees
  2. Tuition fees
  3. Exam fees
  4. Accommodation allowance (based on university residence single room rate)
  5. Meals allowance (covering three meals per day, as determined by the university)
  6. Book and pocket money allowance (approximately R10 000 per year)
  7. Prescribed textbooks and study materials

This comprehensive support package allows successful bursary recipients to focus on their studies without financial constraints.

Additionally, upon graduation, bursary holders have the unique opportunity to participate in a 1-year internship program with Thales Southern Africa, gaining valuable work experience in a cutting-edge technological environment.

The bursary program offers two distinct tracks:

  1. Bursary for BSc Computer Science (specialising in IT): This bursary targets exceptional students pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science with a specialization in Information Technology.
  2. Bursary for Black female students, for Bachelor degree in ANY field of study: This bursary specifically supports Black female students pursuing any Bachelor’s degree program at a South African university.

Thales Southern Africa Bursaries Eligibility Criteria

Before applying, ensure you meet the following minimum requirements (incomplete applications will be disqualified):

For both bursaries:

  1. South African citizen
  2. Valid South African ID number
  3. Currently enrolled in or completed Matric (Grade 12)
  4. Intending to or currently pursuing full-time studies towards a Bachelor’s degree at a South African university
  5. Achieved a minimum of Level 4 for English (First Language) OR a minimum of Level 5 for English (Second Language) in Grade 11
  6. Achieved a minimum of Level 7 for Mathematics AND a minimum of Level 6 for Physical Science in Grade 11  

Thales Southern Africa Bursaries Application Requirements

Students who meet the eligibility criteria should submit a motivational letter.

This letter should introduce yourself, outline your academic aspirations, and express your desire to pursue the chosen field of study.
