How the engineering programmes were built

Where engineering N-results still count
- Trade tests: the trade test regulations accept an N2 with mathematics, engineering science and a relevant trade subject, or a related N6, as minimum educational access.
- The National N Diploma: N4 to N6 plus two years or 2,670 hours of workplace experience, completed by 30 June 2029.
- GCC applications: an N6 or N Diploma can form part of an approved route with a trade and experience.
What replaces them
QCTO occupational qualifications, including artisan trades such as electrician, fitter and turner, millwright and boilermaker, which combine knowledge, practical and workplace modules.

Can I still study NATED engineering in 2027?
Engineering intakes were the first to close under the teach-out. Most new students should look at NC(V) engineering or occupational trade qualifications.
Is an N2 enough for a trade test?
Under the trade test regulations, an N2 with mathematics, engineering science and a relevant trade subject meets the minimum educational access, together with the required training and experience.
