How Long Does It Take to Complete N6?

From the start of N4, completing N6 theory takes about a year in engineering studies (three trimesters) and about 18 months in business studies (three semesters), if you pass every subject first time. Most delays come from subjects that have to be rewritten, which is where the phase-out makes timing matter.

How rewrites affect your finishing date

  • A failed subject is rewritten in a later examination sitting, which pushes your N6 completion back by at least one trimester or semester.
  • You may be allowed to carry a failed subject while continuing, depending on college rules and prerequisites.
  • During the teach-out there is no guarantee of later sittings for every subject, so rewrite as soon as possible.

Frequently asked questions

Can I finish N6 part-time?

Some colleges and distance providers offer part-time study, which takes longer. Check that your programme still has examination sittings during the teach-out.

What happens if I fail an N6 subject?

You rewrite it in a later sitting. Plan early, because later sittings are limited during the phase-out.
