About the IVANPLATS Bursary Programme

The IVANPLATS Bursary program offers financial assistance to South African students residing near recognized mining communities. 

Unlike many bursaries with specific field requirements, the IVANPLATS Bursary is open to students pursuing ANY field of study at a recognized and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa. 

This program is particularly beneficial for students with aspirations ranging from engineering and business leadership to social sciences and the arts.

Eligibility Criteria for the IVANPLATS Bursary

To be eligible for the IVANPLATS Bursary program, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. South African Citizenship or Permanent Residency: You must be a South African citizen or hold permanent residency in South Africa.
  2. Previously Disadvantaged Background: Preference will be given to students from previously disadvantaged groups (PDGs) in South Africa.
  3. Matric Completion: You must have completed your Matriculation certificate (Grade 12).
  4. Full-Time Studies: You must be enrolled in, or intend to enroll in, full-time studies towards a recognized qualification at a South African tertiary institution in 2025. Short courses or skills programs are not eligible.
  5. Academic Record: You must demonstrate a passion for learning and commitment to your chosen field of study. This will be evidenced by your academic record.
  6. Vaccination Status: You must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and possess a valid vaccination certificate.
  7. Local Community Preference: While applications from all South African students are welcome, preference will be given to students residing in local and “doorstep” host communities surrounding recognized mining areas.

Please note that failure to meet any of the above criteria will result in your application being disqualified.

IVANPLATS Bursary Application Requirements

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for the bursary by submitting the following documents:

  1. Certified copy of your South African ID document
  2. Certified copy of your latest Matric results/ certificate
  3. Full academic record/ transcripts (if currently studying) on official institutional letterhead
  4. Proof of registration at a recognized tertiary institution for 2025 (on institutional letterhead)
  5. Proof of residence (letter from a tribal authority or ward councilor confirming your address)
  6. Your COVID-19 vaccination certificate

There is no separate application form required. Simply submit the listed documents for consideration.
