About UCT Kaplan Centre Bursaries

The UCT Kaplan Centre Bursaries offer financial support to deserving undergraduate and postgraduate students pursuing studies related to Jewish studies, Hebrew language, or literature.

  1. Undergraduate Bursaries: This category targets students enrolled (or intending to enrol) in Jewish, Hebrew Language, or Literature programs at UCT.
    • Bursary funds can be used exclusively for tuition fees at UCT.
    • Eligible students can apply for bursary renewal each year.
  2. Postgraduate Bursaries: This category supports postgraduate and research students focusing on Jewish studies.
    • Bursary funds offer greater flexibility, covering tuition fees at UCT, travel costs, research-related expenses, and running costs.
    • Applicants are encouraged to seek additional funding sources and detail these efforts in their application.
    • Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by the UCT Kaplan Centre’s Academic Subcommittee.

UCT Kaplan Centre Bursaries Eligibility Criteria

Before applying, ensure you meet the following minimum requirements:

  1. South African Citizenship
  2. Studying towards a Jewish studies qualification, Hebrew Language, or Literature (Undergraduate or Postgraduate)
  3. Currently enrolled at UCT or intend to study there

Undergraduate Students:

  1. Certified copy of your South African ID document
  2. Full academic transcript
  3. Proof of acceptance into a relevant program at UCT
  4. Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  5. Two academic testimonials sent directly (under confidential cover) to the Kaplan Centre by your references (e.g. school principal, teacher, lecturer)
  6. Motivational letter (only for new applicants)
  7. Recent academic transcript (for renewal applications)

Postgraduate Students:

  1. Certified copy of your South African ID document
  2. Full academic transcript
  3. Proof of acceptance into a relevant program at UCT
  4. Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  5. Two academic testimonials sent directly (under confidential cover) to the Kaplan Centre by your references (e.g., school principal, teacher, lecturer)
  6. Detailed itemized budget
  7. Research proposal with a brief timeline (approximately 2 pages) (for research grant applicants)
  8. Progress report and a letter of support from your supervisor (1 page) (for renewal applications)
