About John Thompson Bursary

The John Thompson Bursary is a financial aid program that awards deserving students enrolled in Engineering, Finance, or IT studies at accredited South African universities.

The bursary aims to bridge the financial gap for academically strong students facing economic hardship.

By providing financial support, John Thompson hopes to nurture a skilled workforce that contributes significantly to South Africa’s technological and economic growth.

John Thompson Bursary Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the John Thompson Bursary, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. South African Citizenship: You must be a South African citizen by birth or naturalization.
  2. Matric Completion: You must have successfully completed your Matriculation certificate.
  3. Field of Study: You must be enrolled in a recognized undergraduate or postgraduate qualification program in Engineering, Finance, or Information Technology.
  4. Academic Performance: You must demonstrate strong academic performance with a minimum overall average of 60%.
  5. Tertiary Institution: You must be registered at a recognized and accredited South African university.
  6. Financial Need: You must be able to demonstrate proven financial need to qualify for the bursary.
  7. Year of Study: Preference will be given to students entering their final year of study.

John Thompson Bursary Application Requirements

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for the John Thompson Bursary by submitting the following documentation:

  1. Certified Copy of ID: A certified copy (not older than 3 months) of your South African identity document.
  2. Academic Record: Your most recent academic record (official transcript) on the letterhead of your university.
  3. Breakdown of Fees: A detailed breakdown of your tuition fees and other academic expenses, issued by your university on its letterhead.
  4. Proof of Income: Proof of your parents’ or guardians’ household income. This can be in the form of the latest payslips if employed or an affidavit if unemployed.
  5. Proof of Residence: A certified copy of your proof of address, not older than 3 months.

There is no separate application form to be completed for the John Thompson Bursary.
