SRD SASSA Status Check
The Social Relief Distress (SRD) Grant is a vital financial support system provided by the South African government to eligible citizens, refugees, special permit holders, and asylum seekers.
If you’re between 18 and 60 years old, have insufficient means, and don’t receive any social grants or UIF payments, you may be eligible to apply for the R350 SRD social grant.
What is the SRD Grant?
The SRD Grant is administered under Section 32 of the Social Assistance Act, 2004 (Act No. 13 of 2004), and has been approved by the Minister of Finance. The grant will remain in effect until March 31, 2025.
How to Check Your SASSA Status

If you’re an existing applicant, you can update your responses to the screening questionnaire at any time if your circumstances change or if you want to correct errors.
Applicants or their proxy must confirm/provide SASSA with the following information:
- Confirmation of reading and accepting the Declaration and Consent documents
- Personal details
- Mobile cellphone number

- Banking information
Cancelling or Reinstating Your Application
If your circumstances change and you no longer need or qualify for the special COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant, you can cancel your application. If you’ve cancelled your application but need to reinstate it, you can do so via the website.
Payment of SRD Grant
Unlike other grants, the SRD Grant is paid once the candidate’s application has been processed. When you do a SASSA status check, you’ll be able to see when your payment date will be.
SRD Grant applicants will receive an SMS once their grant is available for withdrawal from approved retail merchants or banks.
