VerifiedThe Sugar Industry Trust Fund for Education has supported education in South Africa’s sugarcane regions since 1965. Its bursaries now target missing middle families, who earn too much for NSFAS, and students in agriculture.
About the SITFE Bursary
- Up to 41 full bursaries a year.
- Agriculture at Cedara, Owen Sithole College and the University of Mpumalanga in the last round.
- For missing middle households.
SITFE Bursary eligibility requirements
- South African citizen living in KwaZulu-Natal or Mpumalanga.
- In Matric or with Matric.
- Household income between R350 000 and R600 000 a year.
- Preference for sugarcane farmworkers’ children and first-year students.
How to apply for the SITFE Bursary
- Apply online at sitfe.co.za when the 2027 call opens.
- Prepare certified copies of your ID, Matric results, proof of household income, proof of application and any sugar industry link.
- Or email the form to bursaries@sasa.org.za before the closing date.
Closing date
21 November in the last round (2025, for 2026 studies). No 2027 date has been announced.
