Which TVET Colleges Offer Bridging Courses?

At public TVET colleges, the main bridging course is the Pre-Vocational Learning Programme (PLP). It is a one-year programme for applicants who do not yet meet the entry requirements for the NC(V) or an N-course.

What the PLP covers

  • Foundational English
  • Foundational mathematics
  • Science
  • Life skills
  • Technology

The aim is to strengthen your language and numeracy so that you can cope with a vocational programme, not to give you a qualification on its own.

Who it is for

  • Applicants with Grade 9, 10 or 11 who did not meet the NC(V) Level 2 entry requirements or placement test.
  • Adults returning to study after a long break.
  • Students who want a stronger foundation in maths or English before a technical programme.

Colleges that have offered the PLP

  • Boland TVET College
  • Ehlanzeni TVET College
  • False Bay TVET College
  • Goldfields TVET College
  • Nkangala TVET College
  • Northern Cape Rural TVET College
  • Vuselela TVET College

Not every campus runs the programme every year, so ask your nearest campus.

NSFAS policy recognises the PLP as a step towards an NC(V) Level 2 programme. Confirm funding for the PLP year with the college’s financial aid office.

Bridging for university

The PLP does not prepare you for a university degree. For that, look at university extended programmes or higher certificates, or improve your matric results; see where to rewrite matric exams.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the TVET bridging course?

The Pre-Vocational Learning Programme lasts one academic year.

Does a bridging course guarantee me a place?

No. It prepares you for the next programme, but you still have to apply and meet that programme’s requirements.
