The Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education prepares educators for children from birth to before Grade R. It is not a school teaching qualification.
What about the Diploma in Grade R Teaching?
- Unisa offers it until 2029 only to students previously registered.
- It was meant for practitioners already working in Grade R, not for first-time students.
- New students who want to teach Grade R should apply for the BEd Foundation Phase.
Applying
- Applications for 2027 run from 17 August to 9 October 2026.
- The application fee is R160 for first-time Unisa applicants.
- BEd students register with SACE and do teaching practice every year.
