When open, online applications are accepted through the department’s official bursary portal. Make sure you have the following documents prepared before applying:

  1. Certified copy of your South African ID document
  2. Matric June results (if currently in Matric) or Matric certificate
  3. Certified copies of your parents’/guardians’ ID documents
  4. Proof of income for your parents/guardians
  5. Proof of residence (lease agreement, account statement, or affidavit)
  6. Proof of disability (if applicable)
  7. Proof of registration at a recognized tertiary institution
  8. A compelling motivational letter explaining your academic goals and why you deserve the bursary

Follow the instructions on the bursary portal carefully and submit all required documents before the deadline. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness Bursary Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness Bursary, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. South African citizenship: You must be a South African citizen or permanent resident.
  2. Matriculation: You must currently be in Matric or have completed Matric with good academic standing.
  3. Field of study: You must be accepted to study full-time in one of the following health science fields at a recognized tertiary institution within the Western Cape:

    • Nursing
    • Pharmacy
    • Dentistry
    • Physiotherapy
    • Occupational Therapy
    • Speech and Language Therapy
    • Audiology
    • Optometry
    • Medical Laboratory Science
    • Radiography
    • Environmental Health
    • Social Work (specializing in mental health or primary healthcare)
  4. Financial need: You must demonstrate financial need and be able to provide supporting documentation.
  5. Residence: You must be a resident of the Western Cape province.
  6. Commitment: You must be enthusiastic, hardworking, and committed to your studies and serving the healthcare needs of the Western Cape community.
