Who Qualifies For Unisa Refund?
The University of South Africa (Unisa) understands that situations can change, and you might need to withdraw from your studies.
Fortunately, they have a refund policy in place to assist students in such circumstances.
Who Qualifies For Unisa Refund?
Unisa offers refunds to students who withdraw from their studies under specific conditions.
Generally, the earlier you withdraw, the higher the percentage of your fees you’ll receive as a refund.
Here’s an overview of eligibility based on withdrawal timing:
- Before registration closes: A full refund of all fees paid will be issued.
- After registration closes but before study material is dispatched: You’ll receive a refund of all fees minus an administration fee.
- After study material is dispatched but before commencement of lectures: A partial refund will be issued, excluding the cost of study material and an administration fee.
- After commencement of lectures: Unfortunately, refunds are not generally offered at this stage. However, Unisa may consider exceptional circumstances on a case-by-case basis.
What is the Unisa Refund Deadline for International Students?
International students have slightly different deadlines for claiming refunds.
New (commencing) international students can apply for a refund in their first semester or before their first semester begins.
Specific deadlines and requirements are outlined in the “Terms and Conditions of Payment and Refund of Fees for International Students” available on the Unisa website.
How Long Does a Unisa Refund Take?
Once Unisa receives your complete refund application, it can take up to 21 business days for domestic students and 28 calendar days for international students to process the payment.
The refund will be deposited electronically into your nominated bank account.
Can I Get a Refund After Unisa Registration?
Yes, you can still claim a refund after registering with Unisa, but the amount you receive will decrease depending on when you withdraw.
Withdrawals that are made before registration closes will qualify for a full refund, while withdrawals after receiving study material will result in a partial refund.
What Documents Do I Need for a Unisa Refund?
To claim a Unisa refund, you’ll need to submit the following documents:
- The completed and signed refund application form (specific forms exist for domestic and international students)
- Proof of payment of fees
- Confirmation of your banking details with an official bank stamp
- A copy of your ID or a third party’s ID (if applicable)
- Additional documents may be required depending on your specific circumstances. For instance, a medical certificate might be necessary for a medical withdrawal.
Why Might Unisa Reject a Refund Request?
Unisa may reject your refund request if:
- The application is incomplete or lacks necessary documentation.
- You withdraw after lectures have commenced (unless exceptional circumstances apply).
- You fail to meet the deadline for submitting your refund request.
